We're calling for other local businesses to support a Huddersfield woman taking on the London Marathon in just over two months on 22 April.
Running for Children With Cancer Charity UK, Slaithwaite resident Ali Robson has been training since November, and is now asking people to help her reach her fundraising target.
Mrs Robson, who works at Slaithwaite-based waste removal firm Bower Skip Hire, has now raised almost £700, with another £1,300 to go to make her £2,000 goal.
Ali said she applied to run on behalf of a number of childrens’ charities and when she explained her fundraising ideas, Children With Cancer Charity UK jumped at the chance to sign her up: “I’ve been a runner for a few years on and off, and decided to take the plunge to do a marathon. I have three kids myself and wanted to support a cause that is dedicated to looking after poorly children.
“In October, I dyed my hair pink, and just six weeks later, I went for a full head shave. My third and final task is the London Marathon, which I’ve been training for since November. I think the Colne Valley hills stand me in good stead — or so I’m hoping!”
As a client of Bower Skip Hire for the past 20 years, SB Homes has pledged £250 in funds to the cause, and is encouraging other firms to back Ali’s marathon challenge.
SB Homes’ managing director Stephen Byram has been a runner for many years and has himself taken on the London Marathon. He said: “We know Ali through Bower Skip Hire, and when we heard she was doing this challenge, we wanted to back her.
“We hope other businesses and people will do the same — a marathon is a difficult task, but knowing that you’ve raised money for your chosen charity definitely pushes you forward and keeps you going.”
